Faith Hill was one of the '90s' most popular female singers. Raised in Star, Mississippi, she grew up idolizing Reba McEntire, and sang anywhere she could. When Hill was 19, she left Jackson and headed for Nashville, where she got a job selling T-shirts at Fan Fair. Eventually, she landed a job at Gary Morris' Nashville company, and worked there one year before making her professional debut with songwriter/musician Gary Burr, who went on to become her co-producer. Hill released her debut single, "Wild One," in the fall of 1993; the song became a major hit, spending four weeks at number one on the country charts. Hill released her debut album, Take Me As I Am, in 1994. The record reached the Top Ten on the country charts and went gold within a year of its release. Also in 1994, her second single, "Piece of My Heart," also became a number one hit. It Matters to Me, Hill's second album, was released in 1995. The following year, she married fellow Nashville star Tim McGraw. Hill's third album, Faith, was released in the spring of 1998. |
