Diamond Rio was a '90s country band with bluegrass sensibilities noted for its exceptional musicianship. Each of the four members--lead vocalist/guitarist Marty Roe, lead guitarist/banjo player Jimmy Olander, mandolin player/singer Gene Johnson, keyboardist Dan Truman, bassist Dana Williams and drummer Brian Prout--were involved in music long before the band's formation: Roe began performing professionally and touring at age 12 with Windsong, while Jimmy Olander was a veteran of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Foster & Lloyd. Johnson, meanwhile, had worked with David Bromberg and J.D. Crowe; Williams' uncles were the famed Osborne Brothers, and Truman, a classically trained pianist, got his start playing with Brigham Young University's Young Ambassadors.
